This spring, Orthex joining a takeaway food container pilot together with major retailers and several other partners to test reusable, deposit-based takeaway containers in selected grocery stores in Finland.
During the pilot, customers in four stores have the option to choose a reusable container instead of a disposable one for their take‑away meals.
Each container carries a €3 deposit, intended to encourage customers to return the containers rather than keep them for home use. The deposit is refunded upon return, making it ultimately free for customers to choose the reusable takeaway container.
Orthex is supplying 10,000 durable, bio-based containers designed for repeated use, washing and microwave heating.
The aim is simple: to learn how reuse works for customers, stores and the environment, and how to make circular packaging easy in everyday life.
